Keeping Camp Safe
While our Giants Camps curriculum will look very different than past summers, it will remain highly engaging, safe, and fun for all of our campers at a time when they need camp more than ever.
How will you keep my camper safe?
As with every other summer, a certified EMT or Nurse, employed by Giants Camps, will be on site at all times that children are present.
We’ve reduced our traditional camp site size by a third, we will not have any more than 60 total children on a site this summer.
Camper Groups will be limited to 12 total children at maximum and remain static (no children will switch between groups or interact with other camp groups)
Campers will wash their hands and/or sanitize hands at each water break (water breaks are built into our curriculum every 35 minutes).
Shared equipment (baseballs, bats, etc) will be limited + sanitized twice daily
Campers will be encouraged to bring their own equipment (bats, etc) when possible.
All camper belongings will be kept in a specific space designated for that individual camper alone
Children will be allowed to wear a face-covering, but not required to do so by camp policy.
What procedures will be put in place to ensure staff are safe and that staff implement camp safety procedures?
In addition to our already robust training, we will hold a separate health-specific training for our staff members in consultation with our camp physician and an external epidemiologist
All team members will clear two temperature checks daily (before shift and mid shift). If they exhibit a temperature above 100 degrees they will be placed on paid sick leave.
Team members will wear face coverings
Team members will stay with their assigned small group of campers for the entire week and will not switch or interact with other groups
We’ve added to our already robust sick leave policy so that team members feel comfortable voluntarily taking time off, if they feel ill
Our EMT/Nurse have already been specifically trained in our updated health protocol
Does Giants Camp have the proper equipment and supplies for safety?
We’ve invested heavily in acquiring the proper safety equipment for camp including hand sanitizer, face coverings, disinfectant sprays & wipes, contactless thermometers, & gloves
We’re famous for our drop off & pick-up “valet” services, but we’ve paused that this summer and moved to an entirely contactless process where our families will park, walk their camp in (or out) of camp and show an identification placard so we limit contact. We’ll provide details prior to your camp session and will look forward to our highly interactive car line returning when it is safer to do so!
Is there anything else that I should know or consider before enrolling?
You should know that we are going to extraordinary lengths to provide a safe experience this summer. If you have attended a Giants Camp previously, you already know that our safety protocol is our top expertise; moreover, it’s likely the primary reason you’ve come back year after year (some families entering your 7th summer with us).
You, no doubt, are already aware that physical distancing is antithetical to growing and learning as a child. We’ve already created guidelines, unique teaching and incentive models, and an entirely new training for our team members to stress physical distance. However, kids are going to be kids and they’ll likely have some physical contact within their small cohort this summer.
We will promise to not allow any dog-pile celebrations following walk-off homers, physical handshake lines after games, and we’ll make sure they wash/sanitize hands often and are spaced apart during lunch. We cannot, however, promise that your children won’t sneak a high five behind our backs, bump into each other during a competition, or find some other way to seek out the physical connection that is so important to their growth.
